As a young girl ...
from my first attempts to
express words that I heard
into images with crayon on pantyhose cardboards, I have been fascinated by the language of art. The ability to communicate in colors and images, or preserve a moment in time drives me to fill journals with copious notes and sketches capturing whisps of thought and firefly images that someday will find their way to canvas.
Lynn Laird - Scrimshaw and Other Creative Endeavors
It brings me great pleasure ....
to continue the ancient art of scrimshaw- hand etched artwork inked or lacquered on ivory, antler or bones - with new recycled materials. Over the past seventeen years I have provided scrimshaw artwork for many custom knife makers and gun collectors. Through the work of these highly skilled craftsmen my artwork has been displayed at art events, trade shows and galleries across the country.
Now after years...
of creating miniature designs and portraits for knives and gun grips, I have a substance that allows me to stretch out in size and imagination. I am able to reclaim sections of solid surface counter top from construction projects that I then cut, bevel and polish to form the perfect surface for scrimshaw.
Th.ere is a ...
polarizing energy among our community of artists motivating us to strive and advance our abilities as well as our careers. The magic of technology allows me to reach out and share with you - the collectors, the appreciators and the artists, even while I am hard at "work" in my studio. Inspired and encouraged by the growth and nurturing atmosphere of our creative arts community, there are pages here featuring a glimpse into my many flights of fancy and traditional art.
